This is to invite secondary schools to participate in the captioned competition.

2. The Poster Design Competition for the 38th Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (HKMO) is jointly organised by the Education Bureau and the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology of The Education University of Hong Kong. The Competition aims to enhance students’ creativity and interest towards mathematics learning through the design of posters with mathematic as the theme, as well as drawing their attention to the HKMO. The winning entry will be printed as the 38th HKMO posters for publicity and distribution to secondary schools.
3. The Application Form, Declaration and Permission Slip, and Regulations of the competition are set out in Appendices 1a, 1b and 1c respectively.
4. Schools interested in participating in the captioned competition are kindly requested to submit the duly completed Application Form, and Declaration and Permission Slip(s), together with their students’ entries to the Mathematics Education Section of the Education Bureau on or before 29 May 2020 (Friday).
5. All entries submitted will not be returned, and the copyright of all artworks submitted belongs to the Organising Committee of HKMO.

In cases when the presenter of the Competition and the organisers of the Competition (the Education Bureau, the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology of the Education University of Hong Kong) are put to any legal actions, demands, claims and costs arising from the entries that are infringing intellectual property rights, the Participant concerned shall accept full liability and indemnify the presenter and organisers of the Competition for all loss and damages.

Appendix 1c
Poster Design Competition for the 38th Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad Regulations
1. Aims
The competition aims to enhance students’ creativity and interest towards mathematics learning through the design of posters with mathematical themes, as well as drawing their attention to the HKMO.
2. Participant’s Qualification
Participants must be full-time students registered in Hong Kong secondary schools.
3. Entries
Only one entry can be submitted by each participant.
4. Basic Requirement of Poster
(a) Size A4 (210 mm × 297 mm)
(b) File type bmp, jpeg or ai (adobe illustrator), with minimum resolution of 300 dpi
(c) Colour There is no limitation on the number of colours to be used.
(d) Design (i) The logo of the HKMO must be included (refer to Point 12 of this Annex for the sample of logo).
(ii) The design should show that the HKMO is a mathematics competition and reflect its objective.
(iii) The design should not bear any drawing of calculators as they are not allowed to be used in the HKMO.
5. Title of Poster
The following titles must be included on the poster:
(a) The 38th Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad; and (b) 第三十八屆香港數學競賽
6. Information of the Participant
The following information of the participant in both Chinese and English must be written / printed on the back of each entry:

7. Submission of Entries
Each entry (a printed A4 size poster, a CD containing its softcopy, and the information as specified in Point 6 above) should be submitted together with the attached Application Form and Declaration and Permission Slip on or before 29 May 2020 to:

8. Prizes
All prize winners (including awardees for the Champion, the First Runner-up, the Second Runner-up and Best Designs) will receive certificates of merit and book coupons. All prize winners must collect their prizes as early as possible after the announcement of results; otherwise, their prizes will be voided.
9. Judging
The judging panel for the competition comprises members of the Organising Committee of the HKMO (2019/2020). The decision of the judging panel will be final.
The results will be announced in September 2020 through letters to all participating schools.
10. Copyright
All entries will not be returned, and the entries and their copyright will become the property of the Organising Committee of the HKMO. The Committee will have the full-right to use those designs.
11. Publication
One prizewinning poster will be selected by the judging panel for producing posters, which will distributed to secondary schools early next school year for promoting the 38th Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad.
