本研究完成的工作可以分為兩部分，對於學術研究以及應用方面預期的貢獻如 下：
1.對於跨入 21 世紀的台灣民眾的台灣認同/政治認同，能夠有較深入的瞭解。
2.對於政治認同在台灣經驗性研究的測量與研究，可以有啟發性的研究成果。
3. 對於政治認同對台灣選舉政治與兩岸互動的政治後果，預期有啟發性的研究 成果。
4.對於運用不同研究方法探討重要政治概念的起源、測量與政治後果的研究過 程，本研究雖未必是一個創新典範，卻可供未來學者進行類似研究時，很好 的參考範本。
本研究針對民主轉型過程中，新興民主國家民眾國家認同/族群認同/政治認同 的深入研究，可以提供國際學術社群對於牽動兩岸關係與台灣選舉政治最敏感的一 條神經---台灣認同的研究，重要參考資訊。
對於參與研究計畫的相關人員，透過本研究主題以及本研究所使用的研究方 法，可以獲得預期的訓練與成果如下：
1.本研究主持人過去對於分析台灣地區民眾政治態度的持續與變遷上，有其一 定成果。此次採用不同於過去結構性問卷的研究設計，研究台灣地區民眾的 台灣認同進行系統性研究，相信所累積的資料，對於國內政治態度以及有關 民主轉型相關的理論建構，會有重大貢獻。
2.對於參與本次研究計畫的所有學者以及相關的研究生，不但有機會更加熟悉 焦點團點訪問法以及深度訪談的運用，並可以在實際的參與過程中，以第一 手的親身經驗，得知民眾台灣認同的內涵與可能後果，對其相關的研究以及 教學工作，會有一定的啟發與幫助。
3.對於參與研究助理，能夠經由此次研究獲得實際的訪問以及資料處理經驗，
對於未來從事獨立研究的訓練與能力，將有莫大助益。
