4.2 Human Assets

3magination would start with a total of 11 people. The indicated salary should be seen as ceiling and due to the social welfare system in Austria, between 47% to 52% has to be deducted in order to get the net salary of the indicated position.

 Managing Director:

The Managing Director will be the partner of the company with the highest share of 24% and will be responsible for the initial set-up of the company. This not only involves fundraising on both sides investors and banks, but also negotiation with the suppliers of the 3D printers and materials. He is also responsible for searching and renting an adequate place, and the coordination of all ongoing processes. In addition, the managing director will undertake the initial recruiting procedure, since the success of the company highly depends on the recruited talents that are willing to build up such a company together. Creating the corporate identity and the external appearance, together with a marketing agency are also part of his duties at the beginning of the venture.

After the initiation phase, his tasks will target the definition of 3magination’s strategy towards profitable growth as well as the operation management of the company.

Together with the finance director, the head of the company should also put in place adequate operational planning and financial control systems, closely monitoring the operating and financial results against plans and budgets. Furthermore, he will primarily be responsible for the recruiting process, since this very important task goes in hand with the company culture that is intended to be created over time. On the operational side, he will work closely with the sales team and support them in any way, including his presence in important sales meetings with clients. Regarding the promotion of the company one key responsibility is public relations towards media and investors in addition to regular marketing channels.

His salary is estimated to be EUR 180,000 per year.

 Finance Director:

3magination and having a solid manufacturing industry background. He should have some years of experience in accounting, management control, process optimization, risk management, with some experience in treasury and ideally having had a similar management position before.

His main tasks would include clear budgetary planning, both short and long term, assuring that all financial practices are in line with statutory legislation and regulations, monitoring and interpreting cash flows, predicting future trends, researching and reporting on factors influencing business performance, analyzing competitors and market trends, establish a financial risk management system, identifying cost reduction opportunities, produce accurate financial reports, and arranging new sources of financing.

In addition, during the start-up phase he would have to basically help the managing director with most tasks, dealing particularly with all regulatory issues as well as fund raising from investors and banks.

His salary is estimated at EUR 160,000 per year.

 Operations manager

The operations manager is ideally the third partner of the company, owning as well 18%.

On the operations side, the operations manager at 3magination should have a worked in the additive manufacturing technologies field, especially laser sintering and stereolithography for many years (7+), having gained experience at a larger competitor, in Europe or the US, or having developed the printers with one of the major system manufacturers. He should be an expert not only in operating the printers but also in the characteristics of the different materials, be it polymers or metals.

He will be responsible for setting up the machines, making them produce the anticipated quality while working closely with the CAD designer as well as the 3D printer operator.

Furthermore, the operations manager should be aware of quality certifications i.e. ISO,

and preparing the company to fulfill and eventually achieve the aspirated accreditations.

His main duties include the utilization of the different printers in accordance to their capacities, the maintenance of the printers and the right choice of material anticipating future needs. Furthermore, the operations manager will be the head of the 3D printing machine operator team. Furthermore, he should closely collaborate with the R&D engineer to be aware of state of the art technologies and be able to constantly improve and innovate the production process. In addition, the operations manager could also be consulted for sales pitches if necessary.

His salary is estimated at EUR 120,000 per year.

 3D printing machine operator team:

In the initial start-up phase, one 3D printing machine operator will be enough to take care of the printers, together with his supervisor and the operations manager. This will change over time, and once a new 3D printer is acquired in 2017, so will a new 3D printer operator be added to the team.

The job profile requires knowing the technology, ideally having worked with it before.

The operator should have at least three to four years of work experience in a production company, having finished his education as apprentice10 and being open and interested in a new way of production.

His main duties would be to maintain the printers, being in charge of refilling the printers with the correct material and most important, taking care of the produced parts after they come out of the printers. This postproduction processes involve, cleaning the parts from remaining powder, getting rid of the support structures, cooling and

 Research and development engineer:

One research and development engineer will be part of 3magination’s operations team as a specialist. Since the used technology is relatively new and the possibilities with this technology are nearly indefinite, someone taking care of the latest trends, researching, innovating, and implementing new processes is key to success.

The R&D engineer should possess an engineer degree, have a solid scientific and technical knowledge related to additive manufacturing technologies and materials in both polymers and metals and should also be firm with CAD software tools. Overall, he will not be directly involved in the daily production, but be consulted for challenging projects.

His main responsibilities include identifying and developing new processes for product manufacture as well as implementing process controls to ensure the produced parts are of a high quality and can identically be reproduced. Regarding quality assurance, the R&D engineer has to make changes to raw materials or components and process where necessary. Moreover, his duties include reducing costs by investigating alternative materials or new machinery to improve efficiency, advising on equipment modification to enable process changes for new product development, resolving production problems, and last but not least, generating data regarding the safety and efficacy of new products, which is especially essential in the medical field. The R&D engineer will closely work with all other functions in the company, especially in the operations department and the CAD designer team.

His salary is estimated at EUR 90,000 per year.

 CAD designer team:

The CAD designer team will initially be comprised of two members. It will be enforced in 2019, when output capacity will be increased and the machine park will total seven printers.

A CAD designer in an additive manufacturing company has to have a different approach than one working in a traditional manufacturing company. Since parts can be produced with great complexity and process considerations are much less present, existing design guidelines, which dictated that shapes such as parting planes, draft angles, and wall thickness should be kept simple, become obsolete. Therefore, the team members should ideally be freshly graduates that have been trained for additive manufacturing design.

The team leader should however have already some experience in that field.

The duties of the CAD designers at 3magination are to design parts and products for clients and be innovative in the execution. Since the CAD designer department is meant to be one of the competitive advantages of 3magination, a large focus will be put on training and workshops. Moreover, a close collaboration with the R&D responsible will be emphasized, so that new trends can immediately be implemented. In addition to transforming existing 3D CAD models that clients provide into drafts that exploit the full potential of additive manufacturing, the team members should also be able to compose and create CAD designs together with the clients. The designers should always bear in mind how their design might help clients to save costs in the short and/or long run be it in the production process or in the lifetime span for their customers later on.

The salary of each team member is estimated at EUR 70,000 per year.

The sales force will play a key role in determining the success of 3magination. Therefore, the team size will be the largest, right form the start of the venture. This is also due to the fact that the German speaking market is widespread and clients are located all over the region. In both, 2017 and 2018 one employee will enforce the sales team, respectively.

The most important quality a sales person at 3magination should have is the technical or engineer background in addition to the sales skills. The better the sales team knows the different types of technologies, materials, possibilities and advantages of additive manufacturing, the more client relationships and deals everyone will be able to make.

This implies that the members of the sales team must have 5 to 10 years of experience in similar industries, ideally having worked with one of the major competitors.

The sales team would be responsible for different geographic regions and segments of clients. The majority will take care of small and medium size enterprises that produce fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, and designers of all kind, but concentrating on furniture, jewelry, and bijouterie.

One sales man at the beginning will be in charge of clients in the medical and dental field, since this is a very specific area and different expertise is needed.

The sales force should be able to work in a decentralized manner, and the less they show up at the office, the better. One very important task for the sales force is to hold seminars with clients and educate them regarding the potential of additive manufacturing.

Furthermore, as previously mentioned, the sales force can request whomever necessary in the company to join sales meetings if required. They report directly to the managing director and have his full support to move forward and acquire clients.

The salary of each team member is estimated at EUR 80,000 per year. The variable part of the salary will however be higher than for all other staff.

 Secretary:

taking care of all the little things in between.

For this stressful position someone very trustworthy has to be chosen, since this person will be involved in all parts of the company. The secretary should have a lot of patience but be forceful to get things through on all levels. Furthermore, the writing and speaking skills have to be excellent in both English and German, and she should have advanced knowledge in MS Office, particularly in Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

The secretary will primarily help the managing director and the finance director to stay on top of their responsibilities, regarding scheduling of meetings and appointments, filtering emails, taking care of outgoing and incoming mail and packages, receiving visitors, and coordinating all office management activities. Other duties involve the maintaining of the company’s employees schedule concerning working hours, vacations, and sick leave of every employee.

Regarding business travels, the secretary has to prepare itineraries and compile all travel expenses afterwards. This especially concerns the sales force, since they are going to travel a lot.

The salary is estimated at EUR 60,000 per year.
