【Abstract】
Japanese Prime Minister Abe advocates foreign and national security policies based on the concept of “proactive contribution to peace” in his second administration. Actions such as the enactment of the new National Security Legislation, strengthening of the Japan-U.S. Alliance and establishment of the National Security Council are put into practice his political beliefs and to demonstrate his proactive and pragmatic second-term administration as well as strategic planning. PM Abe’s strategy of “proactive contribution to peace” affects the political situations in the Asia-Pacific region and the development of Taiwan-Japan relations. This article examines issues such as Japan’s foreign policy on Taiwan under the “proactive contribution to peace” approach, the current condition of mutual cooperation between Taiwan and Japan, and the interactions between Taiwanese and Japanese political leaders. The influence of “proactive contribution to peace”
on Taiwan-Japan relations is also analyzed.
