Thinking outside of the box is part of creative thinking and often results in innovative solutions to sticky problems. However, thinking outside of the box is challenging, as we naturally develop patterns of thinking that are modeled on repetitive activities and knowledge that we frequently access and surround ourselves with.
Some years ago, a truck driver tried to pass under a low bridge, but failed. Some passersby tried to use force to help the driver pass under it, but the truck was lodged firmly under the bridge. The driver was unable to continue driving forward or reverse out. This situation caused massive traffic problems, which resulted in emergency experts and truck drivers gathering to negotiate various solutions for dislodging the trapped vehicle. Emergency workers were debating whether to dismantle parts of the truck or chip away at parts of the bridge. Each person provided a solution that fit her or his level and area of expertise. However, a boy walking by and witnessing the intense debate looked at the truck, bridge, and road and said nonchalantly, "Why not just let the air out of the tires?" To the amazement of all the specialists trying to unpick the problem, the boy's thinking outside of the box solution was the best one.
Indeed, the boy's solution made the truck go free with ease, without causing any trouble. But how could the boy figure out a solution to a problem that the adults and experts couldn't? This story symbolizes that oftentimes the most obvious solutions to problems are the ones hardest to come by because of our inability to think outside of our normal and habitual thinking.

Text 2
As summer looms closer, students look forward to relaxing days. However, not many know the origin of summer vacation. There are a lot of myths about where it came from. Some contend that its origins trace to America's agrarian past. In the early settlement of the U.S., the nation was made up of many farmers. During summer, school kids needed to take a break to help their parents in their fields and farms. As exciting this story may sound, in fact many children did not attend school and worked all year round sweating in the fields and tilling the soil. Other kids never took a break from school during the summer.
Another myth says that the origin of summer vacation relates to the rise of the middle and upper classes in American society. During the summer months, wealthy and affluent families used any excuse to escape from the harsh and hot summer weather in the city to visit the countryside and enjoy the cooler weather there with their children. However, this affected children's school attendance and learning progress. To counterbalance the days missed from school, a more regulated summer break for school kids was introduced. Legislators and labor union advocates agreed that there should be 40-60 days off the school year calendar. The reason they gave is learning year-round is not ideal for kids because the brain is a muscle which needs to be rested.
Whether the explanations of the origin of summer vacation are true or not, students love summer vacation, and they make a sort of business for business folks, who take advantage of the summer vacation and turn it into a business opportunity and business venture.
