The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology today announces the appointment of Professor Grafton. W.H. Hui, formerly Professor at the University of Waterloo, as Professor in the Department of Mathematics.
Professor Hui was born in China. He earned a BSc in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics at Beijing University and a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Southampton, and received an honourary DSc conferred by the University of Southampton for his original research in fluid dynamics. After five years with the University of Southampton, in 1974, he left for the University of Waterloo where he became, in 1979, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering.
Vigorous research and dedication to teaching have been the cornerstones of Professor Hui’s career. He publishes regularly in professional journals, has taught as a Visiting Professor at various institutions, and has been a consultant on high speed aerodynamics and flight mechanics to the NASA Ames Research Center, and on water waves to the Canada Center for Inland Waters for more than a decade.
