It’s ok not to be perfect.

It sounds strange, right? That’s because we’re used to trying to be perfect. Our parents want us to get full marks. We want the very best in life. And our minds never stop looking for new ways to improve.

But here’s the catch. Although it’s good to have goals, you’re more likely to achieve them by just being yourself. Trying to be perfect only makes things more difficult. It adds stress and slows you down by making you overthink everything. It’s better to just calmly and coolly get the job done. Even if you make a mistake, you can learn from it next time.

Remember that perfection doesn’t even actually exist. It’s just an idea that we have fallen in love with. Even if you did achieve “perfection,” you wouldn’t know it. You’d be too busy worrying about how to improve on it.

63-year-old Chen Shu-chu, born in 1950, has struggled with poverty for most of her youth but she credits it as a source of motivation. When she was still in primary school, her mother died after a difficult childbirth because her family could not afford proper treatment at a hospital. To help make ends meet, Ms Chen quit school and began working at the family's vegetable stand in the Taitung Central Market. But that wasn't enough. A few years later, her younger brother died from the flu because the family was unable to raise enough money to pay for advanced medical care in Taipei.

Instead of making her angry, the experience motivated her to help other poor people. She sells vegetables for up to 18 hours a day, six days a week. But no matter how much money she

makes, she spends no more than a few dollars a day on herself so that she can give away the rest.

Ms Chen's good deeds quickly gained attention, with local authorities dubbing her the "Model of Philanthropy". What’s more, she was selected as one of the 100 most influential people by Time Magazine in 2010. Reader's Digest named her Asian of the Year and Forbes Asia selected her as one of their 48 heroes of philanthropy. Even after the receiving the $50,000 cash prize from Ramon Magsaysay Award, she promptly donated the entire amount to Taitung's McKay Memorial Hospital, which inspired an outpouring of donations and enabled the hospital to build a new medical building.

Despite the hard work and her own health problems, Ms Chen has no plans to retire, and she hopes to "do this forever". "My wish is that I can work till the day I collapse. Money is only useful if you give it to people who need it."

Step 1: Create a time chart of your current activities. Creating a time chart will allow you to see how you spend your time from day to day. For a one-week period, take notes about your daily activities. Record things like when you are at school or home with family. Even note when you eat and sleep. Once you have done this for a week, look for times that you can slip in an hour of dedicated studying. This chart can be helpful for

determining days and times you can devote to studying.

Step 2: Develop a schedule – Now that you have determined available days and times for studying, make a mark in your planner or calendar. It is best to have a schedule written down so you don’t forget. Seeing it written down can make it seem more important, like the date when you need to hand in your report. Also, it is helpful to write down which subject you plan to study, so you can be sure to devote enough time to each of your classes.

For example, Mondays and Thursdays can be set aside for studying math, while Tuesdays and Fridays can be devoted to English.

Step 3: Determine your study goals – At the beginning of each week,

determine why you need to study and what you plan to accomplish in each class. For example, if you are studying for an important midterm exam, alter your study plan two weeks before the test to incorporate review of old tests and notes in your sessions. On the other hand, when you don’t have an upcoming test, use your study time to review one chapter. You will need to change your study plan depending on your weekly goals, so be sure to analyze your plan based on the schedule.

Step 4: Stick to your schedule – A study plan works best if it is followed on a consistent basis. You should try to develop a study plan that you can follow for the length of each semester of high school. Remember, the most important thing is sticking to your plan.

56. What is the purpose of the article?

(A) To help students analyze their school work.

(B) To teach freshmen how to arrange their study time. (C) To train kids to stick to the plan they have made. (D) To inform students a new time chart.

57. When you start making your chart, first you take note of every activity you do in a week so that you can ____.

(A) delete unnecessary work (B) mark them on your calendar (C) spare some time for sleep

(D) find out the available time for study

(B) The time length of a study plan is no more than a month. (C) To remember the schedule, the best way is to write it down. (D)The study plan can be modified due to the date of exams.
