Prof. Chia-Wei Woo, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Mr Paul Chow, Chief Executive of the Stock Exchqnge of Hong Kong Ltd., will inaugurate the opening ceremony of the “Regional Conference on the Development and Interactions of Futures, Options, Warrants and Stock Markets in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and Taiwan”. The opening ceremony will start at 9:15 a.m. 26 August..

The conference is to be held in the CITIBANK Lecture Theatre at HKUST on 26-27 August, 1993. It is jointly organised by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(HKUST), the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd., and the National Sun Yat-sen University (Taiwan).

“The explosive growth of Asian economies has generated a keen interest in the development of both the derivative and primary securities markets in the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan,” noted Dr. Eric &hang, Director of the conference. “The conference aims to encourage communication and knowledge transfer, and to facilitate cooperation and coordination , among the financial markets of the region.”

The conference is timely in that policy makers, practitioners and scholars will share their problems, opportunities, challenges and current research concerning the financial markets in these three areas.

Presentations on new developments in financial products, securities exchanges, and regulatiory frameworks will be an important part of the conference, which promises to provide a good opportunity to meet representatives from leading financial firms in the region.
