Growth Activities and Its Operation

*ABSTRACT
The study was using the method of action research. It recorded a supervisor guiding 8 mentor teachers involving in professional growth activities in a junior high school at Taipei City. In the process of supervising, it also recorded how the supervisor helped these mentor teachers dealing with the problems encountered with their mentees. The main purpose of the present study was to examine how to use the professional development needs of the mentor teachers and how the system operating to design professional development activities with respect to the effects of teacher professional growth. It also recorded how the supervisor helped these mentor teachers recording their interaction processes with the mentees and reporting the results of the processes. There were 17 subjects involved in the study. These subjects were a supervisor (the researcher), a designer of the professional development program (the director of the academic affairs in the school), 8 mentor teachers and 7 mentees. The results of the study showed when the design of the professional development program was based on the operation of the system and the needs of the participants as well as setting the clear goals of the professional development activities, the effects of the professional growth of the participants were significant.
