The Hong ‘Kong University of Science and Technology announces today the appointment of Professor Hsi-sheng Ch’i as the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Science.
Professor Ch’i first joined HKUST in January 1992 as the Head of the Division of Social Science and Professor of Political Science. Before moving to Hong Kong, he was Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Tunghai University in Taiwan, Prof Ch’i went to the University of Chicago, where he received both his MA and PhD in political science.
Professor Ch’i, a leading scholar, has published numerous articles and books on China, some of which focus on the politics of war in this century. His scholarly work is distinguished and highly respected internationally. Currently his research involves a critical re-evaluation of US- China relations during World War II and the impact of foreign democratic ideas on China’s democratization process.
