Coca-Cola is the world’s most popular soft drink. The company can be characterized by its genius in promoting its products coupled with its drive to continually expand its markets.

Coca-Cola was being promoted by an advertisement in a local American newspaper in as early as 1886, just a few months after its original formula had been invented by John Pemberton, and Atlanta pharmacist. He marketed Coca-Cola as a tonic drink to cure headaches, but the slogan was effective and simple: “Drink Coca-Cola.”

Nationwide expansion followed the formation of the Coca-Cola Company in 1892. The company established bottling factories outside Atlanta, enabling the consumption of Coca-Cola to spread to every U.S. state. This expansion was accompanied by Coca-Cola advertisements on barn doors and the sides of buildings throughout America, and by hiring famous singers, actors and sports stars to promote Coca-Cola. Specially made Coca-Cola calendars, trays and bottles also helped establish the brand name.
