HKUST Receives a Donation from Kingworld Medicines Group
to Boost Exchange of Business Students and Research in Chinese Medicine

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a donation from Kingworld Medicines Group in support of the University’s Center for Chinese Medicine R&D and student exchange activities of the School of Business and Management.
In recognition of the Group’s generosity and support, HKUST named a tiered classroom of the Lee Shau Kee Business Building after the company. A ceremony was held earlier on the campus today. Offciating guests included Mr Zhao Li Sheng, Co-founder and Chairman of Kingworld Medicines Group, HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan and other senior management.
In his remarks, Mr Zhao said he was delighted to be able to contribute to Hong Kong’s higher education
sector. “HKUST is a world renowned university which pursues innovation and excellence through nurturing talents with a global vision. We share the same vision and hope to build a healthier China by boosting the nation’s science and technology advancement in collaboration with leading institutes like HKUST,” he said.
HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan expressed his gratitude to Mr Zhao, “Kingworld Medicines Group is committed to promoting the health development in Greater China, which is also a major mission of our University. The donation not only supports our continuous research efforts in Chinese medicine but will also broaden the vision and horizon of our business students.”
Prof Karl Tsim, Director of HKUST’s Center for Chinese Medicine R & D and Chair Professor of Life Science, hosted a seminar entitled “Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Comprehensive Health Industry” after the ceremony, to update an audience of academics and industrial representatives on the latest challenges to the big health sector in Greater China. To address these challenges, the Center continues to develop new
technologies that boost the effectiveness and utilization of Chinese medicine in efforts to minimize herbal wastage, which not only helps generate more income for farmers in Mainland China, but may also boost return and output of the entire national health sector in the long run.
In addition to the interests in health related research, the Group also hopes to nurture more talents for the business sector by offering HKUST’s business students more exchange opportunities, which is crucial for increasing their international exposure.
Kingworld Medicines Group manages a portfolio of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. It is also a major supplier of general foodstuff and medical products and devices in Mainland China. Mr Zhao, who co-founded the Group, is the Honorary President of Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations.
