Poetry Remake Competition
Aims / Objectives
The purpose of this circular memorandum is to invite secondary schools to participate in the Poetry Remake Competition (the Competition) under the Campaign on
“Promoting Positive Values and Attitudes through English Sayings of Wisdom 2021/22”
(SOW 2.0). The competition is co-organised by the English Language Education (ELE) Section and the Arts Education (AE) Section of the Curriculum Development Institute (CDI), the Education Bureau (EDB).
Details
2. First launched in the 2020/21 school year, the Poetry Remake Competition is a cross-curricular activity that connects poetry appreciation and art creation. Building on the success of the competition in 2020/21, a new round of the Poetry Remake Competition is organised in this school year as part of SOW 2.0, with greater emphasis on promoting positive values and attitudes through reading inspiring English poetry written by Hong Kong-based poets.
3. Schools are encouraged to leverage the competition to promote cross-curricular collaboration, with a view to:
enhancing students’ awareness of and interest in English poetry by poets in/from Hong Kong;
encouraging students’ creative and artistic expression through producing visual artwork in response to the poems;
enhancing Language across the Curriculum;
enriching students’ reading and language learning experiences; and
nurturing positive values and attitudes in students.
4. The Competition is divided into the Junior Secondary Division (S1-3) and the Senior Secondary Division (S4-6). Each school can submit a maximum of 10 entries for each division. For schools interested in participating in the Competition, please refer to the relevant appendices.
