This paper aims at inquiring the factors affecting the life quality of the dialysis patients. The subjects are the dialysis patients in a medical center in Central Taiwan and are total 146. The tool is ?short form 36 health survey?. The results indicate that among the 8 dimensions the average points of social function achieve highest 67.72 (SD=20.58) and those of the role limitation due to the physical function achieve lowest 32.19 (SD=40.25). Since the patients are limited in the labor-consuming activities and less limited in the non-labor-consuming activities, they express that the role is limited relating to the physical health problem and emotional issue and are aware of the less vitality concerning the health. Most patients have the slight body pains and feel unhappy and blue mentally. Nevertheless, they will not hinder the common activities of the family members and friends due to the physical problems or emotional issue.
The difference exists in genders and dialysis manners. The patients with kidney diseases employ the peritoneal dialysis more frequent than other patients. The difference fails to exist relating to ages, education, marriage, religion, self care, living with family members, time of accepting dialysis therapy, having chronic diseases or not and the kind of chronic diseases. According to the results, the suggestions to the clinical nurses is that they shall pay more attention to the life quality of the dialysis patients and the future studies can engage in the intervention for improving the life quality of patients.
