A new four-year dual degree program to groom future leaders in business and technology will be launched by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in September 2003.

The Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management is a joint-degree program that builds on the combined strengths of the HKUST School of Engineering and School of Business and Management. It is designed to equip students with both technical knowledge and managerial skills to meet the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly globalized marketplace. Upon completion of their studies, students will earn two degrees: a Bachelor of Engineering in their respective disciplines, and Bachelor of Business Administration in General Business Management.

“To succeed in a technology-based and knowledge society, a thorough understanding of engineering and technology along with sound management skills are essential,” says Prof Chi Ming Chan, Associate Dean of Engineering and Program Co-Director.

“Students will be well trained in technology, business management, innovative thinking and entrepreneurship, thereby sharpening their competitive edge in the international job market where all-round leaders in technology and management are always highly sought after,” says Prof Kar Yan Tam, Associate Dean of Business and Management and Program Co-Director.

Prospective students of the Dual Degree Program are required to fulfill the University’s general admission requirements, and have obtained good results in languages. They can choose from seven engineering disciplines, namely, chemical engineering, civil and structural engineering, computer science, electronic engineering, computer engineering, industrial engineering as well as mechanical engineering; and will be enrolled in the General Business Management program.

The Dual Degree Program will be opened to applicants applying through JUPAS and Direct Entry, as well as Form Six students joining the Early Admission Program for Gifted Students. Annual admission is limited to 30 students.
