Abstract
This project aimed to compare the quality of concentrated Chinese medicinal preparations between Taiwan and Mainland China. Three brands of concentrated Chinese medicinal preparations with three different batches of Paeonia lactiflora were purchased from Taiwan and four brands from Mainland China. The preparations were subjected to heavy metals and microbiological examination. In addition, the amount of paeoniflorin in preparation was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography.
The results of heavy metals and microbiological limits of all the concentrated Chinese medicinal preparations collected meet the critera of Taiwan. The paeoniflorin contents had some variety between these three brands in Taiwan, and between the four brands in Mainland China. Large variety of paeoniflorin content was shown in the concentrated Paeonia lactiflora preparations purchased from Taiwan and those from Mainland China. That might be the difference between cross-strait guideline, manufacturing process and excipient. Therefore, it is really difficult to compare the quality of concentrated Chinese medicinal preparations cross-strait only by judging their paeoniflorin content.
