(12) Action Research of Implementing Creative Problem Solving in Science Game Teaching: An Example of Sound. ABSTRACT This study intends to adopt action research to explore the potential problems and solutions both in designing a science game and in the teaching practice when Creative Problem Solving (CPS) fusion into science sound game instruction. Moreover, this study also focused on teacher’s professional development during designing and implementing science games in teaching activities. This study was carried out into three phases. The subjects included students from 3 different classes in the sixth grade from an Elementary School in the center of Taiwan. The overall instructions were conducted in three stages. Each stage was conducted once weekly for two-class periods per session, thus totaling three six-class periods. The data of the study was collected from recorded videotapes in the teaching process, interviews with the students and co-teachers, observations by cooperative teachers, activity worksheets, student questionnaires, and teaching journals. The results in this study were (1) CPS could be suitably implemented in science games teaching; (2) the efficacy of science game instruction would be influenced by the content of the curriculum, grouping methods, cooperation with team members, teachers' teaching style, and the content of the teaching activities; (3) the researcher acquired professional development in teaching design, teaching capability, and teachers’ research ability. Finally, researcher provided several suggestions on designing & implementing science games and future research for teachers and researchers who are interested in applying games in science education.
