Fascinating National Costumes!
We may see people from different countries put on their traditional costumes on festive days or special occasions. Have you ever seen the following costumes?
Hanbok in Korea
Hanbok is Korean people's traditional costume. Hanbok for women basically consists of a jeogori (the blouse) and a chima (the skirt). In the past, the colours of hanbok showed one's social status. Only the people from upper classes could wear bright colours. Wearing wigs was also a sign of high social status.
Kimono in Japan
Traditional kimonos for women have at least three layers. Some formal kimonos, such as the wedding outfit, can be up to five layers. Among all the pieces, the obi (the belt) is the most costly. Silk is an ideal material to make kimonos but it is quite expensive so modern kimonos are usually made of cheaper materials like cotton.

Answer the question.
1. Which costume do you think is the most special? Why?
Highland dress in Scotland
The traditional costume for men in Scotland is the highland dress. It includes a kilt (the knee- length skirt), sporran (the pouch), sgian dubh (the small knife) and ghillies (the shoes). Since the kilt has no pockets, the sporran is worn as an accessory that is also very useful because it is a pocket. People may dress a little differently on formal or casual occasions.
