The Relationship Between the Leisure Participation and the

Interpersonal Relationships of the Elementary School

Teachers in Kaohsiung and Pingtung Area

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the state of the leisure participation and the interpersonal relationships of the elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung and Pingtung area, the differences of different background variables in the leisure participation and the interpersonal relationships. It was to explore the relationship between the leisure participation and the interpersonal relationships. The study adopted the survey method and proceeded to collect the research data by using the questionnaires of “Elementary School Teacher’s The Leisure Participation and The Interpersonal Relationships.” The questionnaire is sent out to 820 teachers, 772 teachers fill it out, among which 762, or 93% are valid. The data is analyzed through SPSS for Window 12.0. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe method and Pearson correlations were used to analysis the collected data and the significance wasα=.05. The results of this study are as follows:

1. The leisure participation that the teachers are willing to take in, by different degree of interest, are entertainment type, artistic type, sport type, outdoor activity type, knowledge type and social type. The interpersonal relationships that the teachers are willing to take in, by different degree of agreement, are cooperation type, harmony type, reliable type and emotional type.

2. The factors of gender, age, martial status and the level of education have distinct influence on elementary school teachers’ participation in the leisure participation. The factors of the level of education have distinct influence on elementary school teachers’ participation in the interpersonal relationships.

3. The participation of the elementary school teachers in the leisure participation has positive relationship with the interpersonal relationships.
