A Study on the Knowledge , Attitude and Behavior of General People towards Energy Usage - Case Studies of Residents in C

ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study is to understand the situation and discuss the differences of the residents’ knowledge, the attitude and the behavior on energy consumption in both Yuanlin, Chunghwa and Kohu, Yunlin. Further, this study is to analyze the relationship of the residents’ knowledge, the attitude and the behavior on energy usage between the cities and the countryside. It is aimed to be the reference for the government to advance the correlative policy of power consumption and to advance the residents
’ knowledge, the attitude and the behavior on energy usage. This study expects to get the effect of the energy education for the entire people. In order to reach the goals above, this study has adopted the method of survey and use the self-made questionnaire as the major tool for this research. The content of the questionnaire includes four main parts; the basic information of the residents, the scale of knowledge on using the energy, the scale of general resident’s attitude on using the energy and the scale of general resident
’s behavior on using the energy. The study has selected 333 people from Yuanlin and 89 people from Kohu; Sampling from the ratio of the population in Yuanlin and Kohu. This study applies random sampling and a total of 422 questionnaires were valid. The author used the statistical software SPSS12.0 to process and to analyze the data. The statistic methods include descriptive analysis, independent samples T test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient analysis. The results showed that the residents’ knowledge is pretty good. There are no distinguished differences between the cities and the countryside. The attitude of the residents on energy usage in cities and countryside is quite positive. The residents in Yualin are better the ones in Kohu. The behavior of the residents on energy consumption in cities and countryside is moderate, and no distinguished differences existed. There is distinguished positive correlation between the knowledge and attitude, and between the attitude and the behavior.
It showed that the higher the residents’ knowledge is, the better the attitude is; the better the attitude is, the more positive the behavior is.
