1. Background
The Author, Ren-Yang Horng, was born on October 10, 1949 in Changhua, Taiwan.
He received a B.S degree in Textile Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan in 1983. After graduation, He enrolled in Chinese Marine Corps (CMP) as a Second Lieutenant. He entered several local companies related to textile industry to accumulate his work experiences and to prepare for further study after retired from military. In 1989, He changed his major to environmental engineering and enrolled as a master degree student in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY, USA. Then, he went back to Taiwan and has worked at ITRI for more than 18 years in environmental engineering especially water and wastewater treatment, sludge treatment and reduction, and water reuse and reclamation. Fortunately, He has a great opportunity to go back academic and jointed the outstanding research group of Prof. Chih-Ping Huang and to pursuit his further studies on photodegradation characteristics and filtration behavior in the hybrid system of photocatalytic oxidation and non-woven membrane filtration in the Ph. D.
