此次實驗證實豬苓多糖不論在體內或體外對輻射和化學性引起的染色體 損傷均具有防護作用。實驗主要分為三大部份,第一部份先由體外和體內微 核測試豬苓多糖對輻射的防護能力如何,結果顯示效果良好。第二部分將豬 苓多糖進一步和 WR-2721 比較,WR-2721 是世界對輻射防護作用的首選藥 物,雖然在四千多種含硫醇類防護劑中選出,但仍有其副作用;我們試著由 中藥材中找尋毒性小、防護力較佳的藥物如豬苓多糖藉由 MN、LPO、

8-OHdG、tk gene 試驗來看豬苓多糖單獨或併用 WR-2721 對輻射的防護效果 如何,結果在統計上也都能有意義地降低實驗值,表示豬苓多糖單獨或併用 WR-2721 對輻射有防護作用,令人欣慰的是豬苓多糖呈現的效果比 WR-2721 好。第三部份,豬苓多糖既然對輻射有防護效果,對化療藥物 CP 的防護作 用如何,實驗結果顯示,不管體外或體內微核測試,統計上均能有意義地降 低微核生成率,表示在豬苓多糖對 CP 的防護上也有效果在。

豬苓自古以來即為常用的中藥,取得容易、價格便宜,如今知其可彌補 WR-2721 效力的短暫和價格的昂貴,兩者併用或豬苓多糖單獨使用均有推廣 應用於臨床的可行性,另外豬苓多糖也可彌補 CP 對染色體損傷的毒副作用;

如此提高正常組織對輻射或 CP 化療之耐受性,使病人在接受放療或化療的 當時,減低不適的感覺,增加治療的意願,得以協助病患完成治療之療程,

所以預期豬苓在輔助輻射和化學藥物的治療中扮演著非常重要的角色。
