OPENING: Thank you for your insightful/good/interesting/great question. We’re are honored to answer your question.
Questions Answer
What do you think the biggest
challenge/difficulty? How did you overcome it?
We perceive a lot of difficulties before, during, and after the project.
*before: find target audience to respond to surveys and interviews / have a hard time developing questionnaires and interviews based on different modes
*during: technical issues (digital literacy, equipment) during filming
*after: lack of video-editing knowledge (That’s why we turned to professional help.)
Why do you think your video clip is unique and in what way?
*integrate five modes and take them into consideration
*specify a target audience and cater to their preferences before, during, and after the video
before: investigate the target audience’s responses
during:while we were filming the video, we kept the outcomes of the survey and interviews in mind.
after: collect feedback from the target audience
*invite professionals to give us feedback on the video [interdisciplinary collaboration]
Our target audience was 50 NTUST international foreign students. Why?
Because NTUST is one of the universities in Taiwan with the biggest number of the international students. Before the video was...
Why we only ask our respondent choose some of the content not all of the content of the magazine?
Because the time for attention span is relatively short nowadays in the multimodal world and since our target audience prefers the length of 7-9 mins, we had to ask them to make choices.
Due to the time limitation, we ask our respondent to make choice.
What is the most challenging thing what could other people learn from your project?
Seek help from others and what's your suggestion
Interplincinary collaboration that's why we are very grateful for our layout designer in the first
video editing profession
176 Why is this an important
topic to be studied?
*Today is a mutimodal age. (better prepare students for the trend) Literacy education is no longer limited to one single mode.
*With different modes, we have to learn how to integrate the modes
*Little research has demonstrated how to… [ research gaps]
What have you learned from the whole process?
If anyone who wants to conduct similar studies, what suggestions or advice would you give the
person?
*interdisciplinary collaboration
*how to transform a magazine into a video by following a framework which is inspired by previous studies
*In today’s multimodal age, EFL literacy education is no longer limited to one single mode
*WHAT and HOW are equally important in multimodal literacy education.

Why foreign students as target audience?
We wanted to attract more international tourists to Taiwan. One of the biggest population is international students. As we know, NTUST is one of the universities in Taiwan with the biggest number of the international students….
Why Hualien?
(Ministry of Transportation and Communications)
We chose Hualien because we wanted to promote Hualien. According to the data from Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the east area was ranked four. We didn’t want to promote the top three because they were popular enough. Also, because it was not convenient for us to go to the outlying islands, we chose the east area in the end.
And in the east area, Hualien is more famous than Taitung. so we chose Hualien to be our topic.
Why should there be target audience?
Why do you think the first version is not gooe
enough?
Although we edited the first version of our video according to our target audience’s preferences, we still found that there was a lot of room for improvement in the way the video was presented, such as the slow pace, monotonous background music, and poor audio quality.
First, the pace was too slow, so our target audience found the video boring. Second, we only used one background music so our target audience could not perceive the transition.Third, the audio quality of the two hosts was not clear enough to be heard, so our target audience found it difficult to understand the hosts.
That was the reason why we made the second version of the video.
What are the exact differences between the two versions of the videos?
*Show them the presentation slide and walk them through the table again.
What is digital literacy? According to previous studies, digital literacy is defined as the skills you need to have in order to live, learn, and work in a society where communication is increasingly through digital technologies such as internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices. Video-editing skills are an example of digital literacy.
178 Why did you choose the
two journals?
These are only potential journals we will submit our paper to. We welcome any other possibilities and will discuss further with our advisors.
