NOBEL PRIZEWINNER PROFESSOR YUAN TSEH LEE TO LECTURE AT HKUST
World-renowned scientist and Nobel laureate Professor Yuan Tseh Lee will give a public lecture on 25 June 1996 (Tuesday) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Prof Lee is currently President of Academia Sinica, University Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, and Principal Investigator at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.
In his lecture, Prof Lee will explain how molecular beam and laser techniques are used to study the dynamics of chemical reactions. He will then discuss how these studies can help us understand macroscopic chemical phenomena.
Famous for his work in combustion chemistry, Prof Lee shared the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistr with Dudley R. Herschbach and John C. Polanyi for their ground-breaking resear x into the nature of chemical reactions.
Prof Lee has received many prestigious awards and honors, including honorary degrees from universities worldwide and serves as Honorary Professor at various universities in China. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the American Physical Society.
This lecture is part of the Distinguished Lecture Series in Science organized by HKUST’s School of Science. Prof Lee will also deliver a keynote speech at the 1996 Asian Photochemistry Conference, to be held at HKUST from 23 to 26 June.
