HKUST Receives HK$800,000 from Dow Chemical Pacific I&d

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announces a donation of HK$800,000 from Dow Chemical Pacific Ltd. The donation is to be used to finance two'endowed scholarships for students in the School of Engineering, one of whom will be

Dr Michael C.Y. Lung, General Manager for PRC/Hong Kong, Dow Chemical Pacific Ltd, says, "What is important to Hong Kong are people with expertise, and HKUST has a very good environment to train people of that calibre."

Professor Chia-Wei Woo, Vice-Chancellor and President of HKUST, states "Southeast Asia has a great need for Chemical

Engineering. Hong Kong falls behind in Southeast Asia on research

and development. The ratio of R & D to GNP is small compared with the other three small dragons."

Professor Woo adds, "Dow Chemical has a long brilliant

service to Southeast Asia. Our thanks to them for their
