Director of Research Centxe - Professor Jay-Chunc CHEN (
A native Taiwanese, Prof Chen holds a BS in Mechanical
Engineering from Taiwan Cheng I; Kung University and a PhD in
Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology. His
career has primarily been in research at NASA's prestigious Jet
Propulsion Laboratory and his speciality is the dynamics of
large systems such as spacecrafts and satellites. He has
estensive experience in organising large research teams to
perform specific research objectives. He taught postgraduate
courses, supervised postgraduate students in his laboratory, and
published over 80 technical articles.
Prof Chen has been actively involved in the planning of the
construction of research laboratories. He feels'strongly that,
"A university is where people come together to celebrate the
discovery of truth which becomes the foundation of science and
technology. Howwer , these discoveries must be transformed into
practical applications so that the private sector can
commercialise them. In turn , private sector can use the profit
from the commercialisation to support and nourish the further
development of science and technolo-gy. .& Director of Research

Hong Kong, at this critical juncture in time, that motivates me

He has been involved in Chinese American community
activities, serving as Principal *of a Saturda> school for
children rzhere Chinese language andeculture are taught. He and
his wife Christina, a medical librarian, have two children,
Hailyn, 13, and Allen, 9 years of age:
