PRESS RELEASE June 9, 2004
HKUST Global Business Graduates, Placed for Success
June 9, 2004 ...The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) today reveals the results of a job survey conducted on the first class to graduate from the University's acclaimed Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Global Business (GBUS) program.
All 26 GBUS graduates responded to the survey, which reveals that by May 2004, 25 of them had accepted offers of employment or elected to pursue higher degrees.
Most of the graduates have been hired in the banking and finance sectors. Others have assumed a variety of positions in multinational companies, including management trainee and assistant brand manager. The mean gross monthly income of the graduates is HK$18,500, with the highest monthly salary standing at HK$49,000.
Professor Kar Yan Tam, Associate Dean and Director of Undergraduate Programs at HKUST Business School, said: "We are very pleased to learn from the survey that our first GBUS graduates have been immensely successful at securing job placements. Many of them have been hired by multinationals, and their competitors for these jobs come not only from Hong Kong but also from top overseas schools. Their achievements are testimony both to the quality of the program and our students."
The HKUST Business School launched its BBA in Global Business in 2001. The program aims to provide students with an all-round business education, focusing on the development of critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as nurturing a global perspective among the scholars. All participants have to take part in an international exchange program and study for one-semester at a reputable overseas university. The School also arranges a series of enrichment activities, such as the Business Mentoring Program, International Case Competition and summer internship, to improve students’ communications skills and enhance their work experience.
