Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA 20th Anniversary Management Conference

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government, The Honorable Mrs Carrie Lam, together with other prominent leaders, offered insights into the role of leadership at a management conference organized by the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (KH EMBA) Program today.

Mrs Carrie Lam was the Guest of Honor at the event. Other members who officiated at the conference included Mr Andrew Liao, HKUST Council Chairman; Prof Wei Shyy, Acting President of HKUST; Prof Kar Yan Tam, Dean of HKUST Business School; and Prof Sally Blount, Dean of Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Entitled “Leadership in an Age of Disruption”, the conference was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the highly respected KH EMBA Program that combines the best of East and West. The event featured an eminent panel with Prof Justin Lin, the Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University and former Chief Economist of the World Bank; and Dr Vincent Lo, who is the Chairman of Shui On Holdings, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council as well as a member of the HKUST Business School Advisory Council. The panel discussed a timely topic – “Trump Economics and the US-Trade Imbalance” moderated by Prof KC Chan, Adjunct Professor and Senior Advisor to the Dean of HKUST Business School and the former Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

The conference was attended by more than 300 business leaders, academics, alumni of the KH EMBA Program from around the world. Over one third of the participants flew in for this special occasion. The event featured presentations by faculty from HKUST, Kellogg and the global network of KH alumni. Speakers included the alumni who were presented with the “Distinguished Alumni Award” at the conference.

The Award is in recognition of the achievements alumni have made in their professions and the contribution to the Program and communities. Awardees are Mr Ming Mei (KH04 or Class of 2002), CEO and Co-Founder of Global Logistic Properties; Mr Victor Herrero (KH05 or Class of 2003), CEO and Director of GUESS? Inc; Mr Hakan Bulgurlu (KH07 or Class of 2005), CEO of Arçelik; Ms Angela Dong (KH10 or Class of 2008), Global Vice President and GM of Greater China of Nike; and Mr Mike Gault (KH12 or Class of 2010), CEO of Guardtime. Welcoming the guests at the event, Acting President of HKUST Prof Wei Shyy thanked alumni and colleagues of both the HKUST Business School and Kellogg School of Management for their support that has made the Program stand unrivalled in the world. “The conference manifests the commitment of HKUST to bringing together global thought leaders to foster interaction and make a significant contribution to the economic and social development in Asia and beyond,” he said.

Established in 1998, the KH EMBA Program is a partnership between the HKUST Business School and the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. The Program has been crowned the best for eight times by the Financial Times over the past decade.
