Prof M. Tseng to Lead Industrial Engineering at HKUST

The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology has appointed

Professor Mitchell M. Tseng as the first Head of its Industrial Engineering

Department.

“As a body of knowledge, Industrial Engineering makes possible the

effective translation of business vision into reality, and the continuous

improvement of industrial organizations,” said Prof Tseng.

“Students in Industrial Engineering at HKUST will be equipped with a solid

foundation in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences, and they will

be trained to develop skills in engineering analysis and design so that they

can solve problems arising from different aspects of industrial systems.”

Prof Tseng is a prominent industrial engineer and educator with research

interests in manufacturing system design and business process engineering.

Before joining HKUST, he was the U. S. Area Manager of Engineering

Systems at Digital Equipment Corporation. His professional experience

encompasses the development, implementation, and technology transfer of

systems integration engineering for banking, manufacturing, hospital,

government, telecommunication, utility, and educational clients.

Prof Tseng earned his MS and PhD in Industrial Engineering from Purdue

University. For the past three years, he has held an adjunct teaching

position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
