HKUST Graduate Survey Marks
Career Success
More than 94% of those who graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with an advanced degree in 1996 have found full-time employment or are pursuing further studies, according to a survey conducted by the University's Careers Centre.
Of 157 graduates who responded to the survey, 83% are employed and 11.5% are continuing graduate study.
More than half (56%) of the employed graduates are working in the business and commerce sector, an increase of 20% over the previous year. Some 22% have taken up jobs in education, formerly the largest employment sector, and another 13% in manufacturing and industries. Engineering, systems analysis and computer programming, research, teaching and banking and finance are the five major lines of work taken up by the graduates. Their mean gross monthly income is $16,867, slightly higher than last year.
A majority (82%) of the respondents found their studies relevant to their present jobs. Of the graduates going on for further study in Hong Kong, half have chosen to pursue higher degrees at UST.
