29/06/2010 CN Innovations Ltd Donates $5 million to HKUST to Support Applied Research CN Innovations Ltd (CN Innovations), a member of Chung Nam Corporation

Ltd, today donated HK$5 million to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in support of the University's research and development efforts, particularly in the field of nanoscience.

HKUST President Tony F Chan said, "We are immensely grateful to CN Innovations for their generous donation to HKUST. Indeed, CN Innovations is taking the lead among local industries to support research and development at local universities and I believe this exemplary initiative will inspire other local industries to contribute to academia for the benefit of Hong Kong and beyond."

Mr Chong Hok-Shan, Chairman of Chungnam Corporation Ltd, said, "Over the years, HKUST professors have been helping Chung Nam on extending our technological capabilities in the nano field, which leads to eventual business success. Indeed, Chung Nam is very impressed by their quality of research. So we have always wanted to render our support to the University so that it can make an even greater contribution to the region."

Also present at the donation ceremony were Mr Charles HH Chong, Managing Director of CN Innovations, and Mr Winston SY Chan, Chief Technology Officer of CN Innovations.

Chung Nam originated in 1935 as a watch component manufacturer. While maintaining its deep roots in the watch industry, the group is committed, with the help from partners globally, to executing its multifaceted strategy, focusing primarily on

1. Manufacturing using advanced applied technologies, 2. Marketing and distribution of branded consumer products, 3. Lifestyle enrichment and natural resort development.

CN Innovations, being one of the main pillars of the Group, engages primarily on material science applications, including precision engineering / surface treatments, optics, and energy conservation / energy storage.
