HKUST Appoints Reader in Electrical & Electronic Enqineerinq The Hong Kong University' of Science and Technology today announces the appointment of Dr Philip C. WAN, formerly of Intel Corporation, as the first Reader in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

Dr Chan was born in Shanghai, raised in Hong Kong, and educated at the tertiary level in the US. He earned his BS from

the University of California (Davis), and an MS and PhD from the

University of Illinois, all in Electrical Engineering. After

graduation he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois

briefly, then moved into the private sector as Principal Engineer

and Program Manager with Intel Corporation. As head of a ten- member engineering team, his responsibilities included research,

development, -and support activities pertaining to circuit design.

He joined the Micro Products Group in January 1990. His most recent assignment was to initiate a programme to develop computer- aided design tools for high performance multi-chip modules'. In addition, he developed and taught company training courses, and

has been rated among Intel's top instructors.
