HKUST Now Acceptins Applications for Postoraduate Admission in 1991

From December 17, the Postgraduate Prospectus and applications forms for admission to the inaugural postgraduate courses of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) will be available. 140 students will be selected to enter the University’s four Schools of Science, Engineering, Business & Management, and Humanities and Social Science for the term beginning in October 1991. The School of Science will admit MPhil and PhD students in all five of its Departments (Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) and MSc candidates in the latter two. The School of Engineering will admit MSc, MPhil, and PhD students in four Departments (Civil & Structural Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering). The School of Business & Management will admit MBA students with concentrations in Accounting, Economics, and Finance. Finally, the School of Humanities and Social Science will offer MA, MPhil, and PhD programmes in both of its Divisions (Humanities, Social Science). Normally, master’s degree programmes will require 1 l/2-2 years of full-time study (longer for part-time study), while PhD programmes will require a minimum of three years of full-time study after the first degree.

Details of the courses, entrance requirements, and application procedures are

described in the University’s 1991 Postgraduate Prospectus. It and application

forms may be obtained in person or by post from the Admissions Office at 5/F, World Shipping Centre, 7 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Further information and Departmental brochures detailing the postgraduate programmes in individual Departments may be obtained by phoning the University Admissions Office (302- 1500). Applications are welcome from Hong Kong as well as overseas students. The closing date is 1 March 1991, but late applications may be considered.
