HKUST Celebrates World Top Ranking for Kellogg-HKUST

EMBA Program

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Government, the Honorable Donald Tsang, along with other top officials and prominent community leaders, today joined the HKUST to celebrate the world No.1 ranking for the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program.

The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA Program is a partnership between the HKUST Business School and the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Established a decade ago and well recognized ever since, the program ranks No.1 in the world in this year’s Financial Times EMBA global rankings. This is the first time a Hong Kong-based program has topped an international rankings chart.

Prof. Paul Chu, the President of HKUST, thanked colleagues at the Kellogg School of Management and the HKUST Business School for the efforts they put into making the program such a successful world leader in management education. He also thanked the Government and the business community for their support. The celebration, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Central, was attended by 400 guests.

Mr Donald Tsang was the Guest of Honor at the event while Mr Michael Suen, the Secretary for Education, was the Guest Speaker. Other members of the officiating party included Prof. K.C. Chan, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, HKUST Council Chairman Dr John Chan, former Council Chairman Dr Vincent Lo, Donor of the “HKUST Lee Shau Kee Campus” Dr the Honorable Lee Shau Kee, Vice-President for Academic Affairs Prof Roland Chin, Dean Emeritus of Kellogg School of Management Prof. Donald Jacobs, Acting Dean of HKUST Business School Prof. Leonard Cheng, Founding Director of Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program Prof. Steven DeKrey, HKUST Vice-President for Administration and Business Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong, and Vice-President for Research and Development Prof Tony Eastham.

The Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program first entered the Financial Times global rankings in 2003 and placed 9th that year. Its position on the chart has climbed steadily since then: 6th in 2004, 2nd in 2005 and 3rd in 2006 before topping the chart this year.

In addition to the top overall ranking, the program is also listed No.1 for “work experience” of its participants, No.2 in “international faculty” and No.3 in “international students”.

The program was launched in 1998 as a unique East-West partnership to offer the best management education for international talent. It consists of 28 courses, each covered during two weekends and offered over a 16-month program. Teaching is shared equally between the Kellogg and HKUST faculty. There are 17 nationalities represented in the current class of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program and over 50% of the students are based outside of Hong Kong.
