MOTC Will Amend Rules for Bicyclists
T
he Ministry of Transportation and Communications hasapprovedtheproposal, by the National Police Agency forrevisingbicycle safety rules. The new rules will require cyclists to wearhelmets, and bikes to have head lights,reflectors, andbrakesthat are incompliancewith national .The National Police Agency published the number offatalitiesfrom the road accidents bicycles and cyclists last year. Thestatisticsshow that 183 people died in bicycle accidents, 60% of which were caused by head injuries. Therefore, wearing helmets while cycling will be madecompulsoryfor the safety of cyclists.
In addition, 45% of the fatalities occurred at night, which explains head lights and reflectors arevital.
Also, most cyclists do not make left turns in two steps is required of motorcyclists, which increases the to their lives. Officials have also suggested that cyclists change the “carefree” way they ride.
While riding on the road, cyclists should make sure that they are in the slow lane or the cycling lane, and should remain aware of theirsurroundings . When there is no such lane for them, they should stay within one meter of the road side.

Barry Bonds Breaks Home Run Record
B
arry Bonds, considered by many to be one of the greatest baseball players ever to play the game, recently broke one of the most famous records in sports history when he hit his 756thhome run. Thepreviousrecord of 755 homers was held by another of baseball’s all-time greats, Hank Aaron. Aaron set the record in 1974 when he hit 715 homerssurpassingBabe Ruth’s mark of 714. Aaron went on to hit another 40 homers beforeretiring in 1976. Aaron’s record stood for 33 years until the 43-year-old Bonds broke it with one swing of his bat on August 7thof this year. The San Francisco Giantsoutfielderis no stranger to the record books ofprofessional baseball since he also happens to hold the single season record of 73 home runs which he set in 2001.Bonds’ most recent achievement, however, is not without controversy. In 2003, he was accused of usingbanned performance enhancingdrugs such assteroidsto put on more muscle, enabling him to hit more home runs. Bonds’criticspoint out that he was a much smaller man in the early years of his career and then became much larger and started hitting more home runs after he started using the drugs. In the first 10 years of his career, he averaged less than 30 homers per season. In his last 10 full seasons since bulking up, however, he has averaged over 40 home runs per year. Bonds’ supporters, on the other hand, point to the fact that he has never failed a drug test and has never admitted to knowingly taking any banned substances.
Regardless ofthe controversy, most people agree that the most recent achievement of the seven-time National League MVP isincredibleand makes him one of baseball’s greatest players.
