01/11/2010 HKUST Holds First Entrepreneurship Day The Entrepreneurship Center of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has held its first Entrepreneurship Day to promote entrepreneurship at HKUST and to facilitate networking among seasoned industry professionals and entrepreneurs-to-be.

Nearly 300 seasoned and aspiring entrepreneurs filled the lecture theater for the full-day event on Saturday, 30 October 2010, and some even had to move to an adjacent theater where the event was broadcast live.

"This Entrepreneurship Day is not just about entrepreneurship education, but also networking. We will form our own HKUST Entrepreneurship Community, in which students, faculty, mentors, investors and industry partners come together to form a vibrant motive force for innovative business," said HKUST Provost Prof Wei Shyy in his welcoming speech.

He was followed by Dr the Hon Samson Tam, JP, member of the Legislative

Council and an Honorary Fellow of HKUST. "In the Internet Age, when information is overflowing, entrepreneurs need to be more creative and innovative to go beyond just being high tech," he said.

Other speakers at the Entrepreneurship Day included HKUST Acting Vice-President Prof Matthew Yuen, Dr Rocky Law, Center Director, Entrepreneurship Center, HKUST, Mr Sing-Cheong Liu, JP, Chairman of Evergreen Real Estate Consultants Ltd and MyTopHome (China) Holdings Ltd, Dr James Fok, Director, Hong Kong Angel Capital Network and Asia Intellectual Capital Alliance Ltd, Prof Yuk-Lam Lo, Senior Director, QuestMark Asia Ltd, Dr David Xiao, Managing Director of Advanced Photoelectronic Technology Ltd, Mr Wicky Wong, Executive Director of Artenana Company Limited, Mr Ken Wong, founder of Asia Vision Technology Ltd, Mr Alvin Lam, Chairman and CEO of PacificLink, and Mr Minky Lam of Fustec Co Ltd. The moderator was Prof Ali Beba, Associate Director, Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies at HKUST.
