Jim and Max Jim has a new alarm clock called Max.

Max rings at seven in the morning. Jim is angry. He hurls Max under the bed and breaks the glass on the clock. Max says, “Be kind to me. I’m your friend.” Jim says, “Keep quiet! I hate mornings.” Then he sleeps again.

A big black bee flies into Jim’s room. It says, “I’m the Queen of the Night. Let me make your room dark because you like sleeping so much.” The room turns very dark. Jim cannot see anything. He cries for help.

Max comes out from under the bed and gives a long loud ring. The bee is scared and flies away. The room becomes bright again.

Jim tells Max, “Thank you for bringing back the morning light. You are my friend, so please wake me up every morning.”
