In January 2005, Composite CPI was 96.00, up 0.32% compared with December 2004. Due to upward adjustment of the fuel clause of electricity charges, rising prices in hairdressing and beauty services; fish, shellfish and other seafood, the indices of Rent and housing expenses; Other goods and services; and Foodstuffs and beverages went up 1.12%, 1.11% and 0.48% respectively. On the other hand, lower prices in winter clothing and footwear; and telecommunication services led to a decrease in the indices of Clothing and footwear (-2.32%); and Transport and communications (-1.33%).

Composite CPI in January 2005 registered a significant year-on-year increase of 2.57%. For the 12 months ended January 2005, the average Composite CPI rose 1.27% over the previous period.

Compared with December 2004, CPI(A) and CPI(B) increased 0.37% and 0.29% respectively.
