The purpose of this study is to research the relationship among self-perceived health state, activity of daily living ?ADL) state and the depression state, and to explore the influenced factors of the depression state about the elderly people who are 65 or older than in Taiwan. There are 3,806 effective samples in the researched data named 2002 National Survey on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Health Promotion, provided by the Bureau of Health Promotion, Department of Health, R.O.C. These data include Self- Perceived Health Status Scale, Activity of Daily Living?ADL) Scale, and Taiwanese Depression
Questionnaire ?TDQ). We utilize SPSS/PC 12.0 software to compute and analyze the frequency distribution, arithmetic mean, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and Stepwise regressions.
It shows that the self-perceived health state, the number of chronic diseases, activity of day living, gender, structure of family, and the habit of exercise are the influenced factors of the depression state. The results of this research can be used to establish the health database which will be helpful for instruction, research and community health assessment. The results can also provide some suggestions for health policies making in order to take care of more elderly people.
