本次工作是針對雙層 AA 堆疊的石墨烯(AA-stacked bilayer graphene)系統進行研究。此種堆 疊方式的石墨烯已由 Sumio Iijima 的研究團隊成功製造。這種新型石墨烯擁有不同於 AB 堆 疊石墨烯的獨特能帶結構,也因此展現出不同的物理特性。其中我們針對在磁場下形成的藍 道能階(Landau levels)作進一步探討。

研究主題是考慮外加均勻垂直電場與磁場共同作用於 AA 堆疊的石墨烯上,利用緊束縛模 型計算其藍道能階(LL)及能隙等隨外加場之變化。研究結果發現均勻磁場會使系統量子化成 兩群藍道能階並誘發能隙。而均勻電場會提高起始藍道能階的能量(threshold LL energies)、

加大最靠近化學位的能階其量子數,並且改變能階的能量間距(圖 1)。另一方面,能隙(Eg) 會隨著磁場與電場強度呈現震盪相依的關係(圖 2)。因此系統在某些臨界電場強度下,會出 現半金屬-半導體間的轉換。此外,部分的自由载子會在不同層石墨烯間轉移。研究結果也顯 示系統的藍道波函數(Landau wave functions)其主要特徵仍維持不受到外加場的影響。

上述研究成果已發表於國際期刊 Chemical Physics Letters。
