As regards per-capita spending, Mainland visitors spent an average of MOP2,162, up by 16.8% year-on-year; spending of Guangdong visitors (MOP1,804) grew by 12.4% while that of Fujian visitors (MOP1,287) dropped by 17.6%. Moreover, per-capita spending of Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) recorded a year-on-year increase of 5.2% to MOP2,361, with spending of Guangdong visitors rising by 7.9%, whereas Fujian visitors falling by 10.9%.

On the other hand, per-capita spending of visitors from Malaysia went up by 8.2% year-on-year, whereas spending of those from Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan decreased by 3.9%, 8.2% and 6.9%

respectively. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of visitors from Australia registered a significant decline of 21.7%, and spending of those from the United States and the United Kingdom dropped by 0.6% and 4.4%

respectively.

Per-capita spending of overnight visitors (MOP2,733) and same-day visitors (MOP671) increased by 7.4% and 2.0% respectively year-on- year, with spending of Mainland overnight visitors (MOP3,241) and same-day visitors (MOP845) rising by 10.7% and 6.8% respectively.

Total spending of visitors from Mainland China amounted to MOP10.84 billion (representing 78.9% of total visitor spending), up by 22.1% year-on-year; spending of Guangdong visitors (MOP3.72 billion) increased by 12.9% while that of Fujian visitors (MOP254 million) decreased by 14.0%. Total spending of Mainland overnight visitors (MOP8.94 billion) rose by 28.2% year-on-year, whereas same-day visitors (MOP1.91 billion) edged down by 0.3%.

- Total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors was MOP13.75 billion, up by 17.5% year-on-year. Total spending of overnight visitors increased by 22.5% to MOP11.38 billion, while that of same-day visitors decreased by 1.5% to MOP2.37 billion.

- Per-capita spending of visitors was MOP1,787, up by 11.7% year-on-year; per-capita spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors rose by 7.4% and 2.0% respectively year-on-year.

Visitors spent mainly on shopping (43.0%), accommodation (25.6%) and food & beverage (23.1%).

Visitors coming to Macao for MICE events had the highest per-capita spending of MOP3,304, up notably by 38.7% year-on-year, followed by those coming for shopping (MOP2,459) and vacation (MOP2,444).

Analysed by type of expense, shopping accounted for 43.0% of the per-capita spending of visitors, with shopping spending rising by 10.7%

year-on-year to MOP768. Almost half of the per-capita spending of Mainland visitors was on shopping (MOP1,073), and the share of shopping spending of IVS visitors reached 57.9% (MOP1,368).

402 Per-capita shopping spending of overnight visitors was MOP1,020 (37.3% of their spending), up by 11.4% year-on-year. Spending on accommodation dropped by 1.5% to MOP845 (30.9%), while that on food & beverage (24.3%) rose by 17.8%.

As regards per-capita spending of overnight visitors, those from Mainland China (+10.7%) and Malaysia (+3.3%) recorded year-on-year growth. However, spending of visitors from other countries or regions declined, among them spending of Australian overnight visitors fell by 25.4%.

MOP Among the various types of purchases, visitors had a relatively high

per-capita spending on local food products (MOP229) and cosmetics &

perfume (MOP191), up by 17.8% and 18.6% respectively year-on- year. Visitors from Malaysia and Singapore had higher per-capita shopping spending on local food products compared to other countries or regions, at MOP322 and MOP300 respectively; meanwhile, Mainland visitors spent more on cosmetics & perfume, at MOP228.

Per-capita Spending of Visitors by Type of Expense Per-capita spending of visitors on accommodation (MOP458) and food

& beverage (MOP413) increased by 6.6% and 23.4% respectively year-on-year. Visitors from Japan and Malaysia had higher spending on accommodation, at MOP689 and MOP681 respectively; meanwhile, those from Malaysia and Singapore spent more on food & beverage, at MOP517 and MOP472 respectively.

Shopping accounted for 70.3% of the per-capita spending of same-day visitors, at MOP471, down slightly by 0.4% year-on-year, which was mainly spent on local food products (MOP153). Per-capita spending on food & beverage was MOP115 (17.7%), up by 10.2% year-on-year.

Same-day visitors from Mainland China had higher per-capita spending, up by 6.8% year-on-year, while spending of those from Singapore recorded a significant decrease of 21.6%. On the other hand, per-capita spending of same-day visitors from the United Kingdom registered a year-on-year growth of 19.8%.

Analysed by economic activity status of visitors, legislators, senior officials & managers made up 20.2% of the total, down slightly by 0.4 percentage points, followed by technicians & associate professionals (14.7%) and clerks (14.0%), up by 2.4 percentage points and 0.8 percentage points respectively year-on-year.

The results of Visitors' Comments Survey indicated a continuous downward trend in visitor satisfaction towards various aspects of services and facilities. The proportion of visitor-users who were satisfied with the services of hotels (86.1%) fell by 3.1 percentage points quarter-to-quarter, and the share of those who complimented on the services of gaming establishments (71.3%) showed a greater decline of 10.6 percentage points.

Around 50.9% of the visitors indicated that there were adequate points of tourist attractions in Macao, up by 5.7 percentage points over the previous quarter.

In addition, the proportions of visitors who were satisfied with the services of travel agencies (63.7%) and public transport (67.6%) dropped by 5.9 percentage points and 0.6 percentage points respectively quarter-to-quarter.

The unemployed & economically inactive persons (such as housewives and retirees) constituted 30.0% of the total visitors, down by 1.2 percentage points year-on-year.

Visitors coming for shopping and vacation spent an average of MOP2,459 and MOP2,444, up by 5.4% and 1.4% respectively year-on- year. Almost half of the visitors came to Macao for vacation.

Per-capita spending of transit visitors was merely MOP358, down significantly by 24.6% year-on-year.

Analysed by main purpose of visit, visitors coming to Macao for MICE events still had the highest per-capita spending at MOP3,304, up notably by 38.7% year-on-year. This type of visitors accounted for 0.7% of the total.

Note:

Visitor Expenditure Survey and Visitors' Comments Survey adopt sampling methods in selecting samples of visitors to Macao. At different departure points, enumerators collect spending data and comments on services and facilities from visitors during their stay in Macao.

Visitor who stays at least one night in a residential accommodation or casino in the place visited, or has accommodation arrangement with a hotel/guesthouse.

Visitor who does not spend the night in any residential accommodation, hotel/guesthouse, or casino in the place visited, nor does he/she have accommodation arrangement with a hotel/guesthouse.

Spending of Visitors: The amount paid by visitors for the purchase of goods and services for own use or to give away, including expenses paid by the visitors or reimbursed by others such as relatives, friends or employers. Spending of visitors excludes gaming expenses, donations, expenses on purchase of assets and goods for resale.

Any person taking a trip to a main destination outside his/her usual environment, for less than a year, for any main purpose other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visited.
