Total spending of Mainland visitors increased by 22.2% year-on-year to MOP10.65 billion (79.1% of total visitor spending); spending of Guangdong visitors (MOP3.98 billion) rose by 20.4% while that of Fujian visitors (MOP228 million) fell by 6.6%. Total spending of Mainland overnight visitors (MOP8.28 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP2.37 billion) increased by 27.0% and 8.1% respectively.

Per-capita spending of visitors from Singapore (+11.6%), Malaysia (+0.4%) and Taiwan (+1.8%) registered year-on-year increase, while spending of those from Japan (-8.7%) and Hong Kong (-8.0%) decreased. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of visitors from Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom dropped by 2.8%, 3.1% and 15.8% respectively year-on-year.
Per-capita spending of overnight visitors was MOP2,696, higher than the overall per-capita spending of MOP1,709, with spending of Mainland overnight visitors reaching MOP3,111. Per-capita spending of same-day visitors was MOP725, with spending of those from Mainland China amounting to MOP891.

Mainland visitors had the highest per-capita spending (MOP2,002), up by 13.6% year-on-year, higher than the overall increase of 10.5%. Per- capita spending of Guangdong visitors rose by 13.4%, while that of Fujian visitors dropped by 8.7%. Per-capita spending of Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) went up by 5.4% to MOP2,154, with spending of Guangdong visitors rising by 10.9% while that of Fujian visitors falling by 22.5%.
- Total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors amounted to MOP13.46 billion, up by 16.6% year-on-year but down by 9.0% quarter-to-quarter. Total spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors increased by 19.6% and 6.7% respectively year-on-year.
- Per-capita spending of visitors was MOP1,709, up by 10.5% year-on-year but down by 6.6% quarter-to-quarter; per-capita spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors increased by 6.8% and 6.9% respectively year-on-year.
- Visitors spent mainly on shopping (43.7%), accommodation (26.9%) and food & beverage (21.3%).
Visitors coming for MICE events had the highest per-capita spending (MOP3,286), followed by those coming for shopping (MOP2,468).

Per-capita Spending of Visitors by Type of Expense Same-day visitors from Mainland China had relatively high per-capita
spending, up by 9.6% year-on-year. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of same-day visitors from Singapore dropped by 8.4%. On the other hand, both overnight visitors and same-day visitors from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Hong Kong registered year-on- year decreases.
Shopping accounted for 72.3% of the per-capita spending of same-day visitors, at MOP525, up by 5.6% year-on-year, which was mainly spent on local food products and cosmetics & perfume. Per-capita spending on food & beverage made up 15.6% of total, at MOP 113, up by 10.0%.

Per-capita spending of overnight visitors from Mainland China and Singapore increased by 7.4% and 9.7% respectively year-on-year, while spending of those from Taiwan dropped by 2.7%.
Overnight visitors spent 36.0% of their spending on shopping and 34.1% on accommodation, with the respective per-capita spending amounting to MOP971 and MOP921, up by 10.4% and 0.8%.

91 747 Structure of Visitor Spending
MOP Per-capita shopping spending on Handbags & Shoes (MOP91) rose by
44.2% year-on-year, while that on clothing (MOP101) dropped by 9.9%.
Analysed by type of spending, visitors spent mainly on shopping (43.7% of total spending). Per-capita shopping spending rose by 10.4% year-on-year to MOP747 in the first quarter of 2017. Mainland visitors spent 50.4% of their spending on shopping (MOP1,010), while the corresponding proportion for IVS visitors stood at 58.8%
(MOP1,265).
As regards type of shopping spending, visitors spent mostly on local food products (MOP233) and cosmetics & perfume (MOP201), up by 4.5% and 36.9% respectively year-on-year. Visitors from Malaysia (MOP294), Singapore (MOP288) and Mainland China (MOP277) had relatively high per-capita spending on local food products. Moreover, spending of Mainland visitors on cosmetics & perfume took the lead at MOP294.
Per-capita spending of visitors on accommodation (MOP460) and food
& beverage (MOP364) increased by 7.0% and 15.5% respectively year-on-year, with visitors from Singapore spending the most on the two categories, at MOP814 (+15.8%) and MOP450 (+15.1%) respectively.

Among all the services/facilities, a relatively low proportion of visitors were satisfied with the services of public transport (68.2%), down by 1.0 percentage point quarter-to-quarter.
Only 45.2% of the visitors commented that points of tourist attractions were adaquate, down remarkably by 6.1 percentage points from the 51.3% in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Results of the Visitors' Comments Survey indicated a decrease in visitor satisfaction towards all aspects of services and facilities as compared with the fourth quarter of 2016. Around 89.2% of visitor- users were satisfied with the services and facilities of hotels, down slightly by 0.5 percentage points quarter-to-quarter. Those who expressed satisfaction with the services of gaming establishments (81.9%) and retail shops (81.0%) dropped by 2.9 percentage points and 3.7 percentage points respectively.

Note:
Visitor Expenditure Survey and Visitors' Comments Survey adopt systematic sampling in selecting samples who are visitors of Macao. At different departure points, enumerators collect spending data and comments on services and facilities from visitors during their stay in Macao.
Visitor who stays at least one night in a residential accommodation or casino in the place visited, or has accommodation arrangement with a hotel/guesthouse.
Visitor who does not spend the night in any residential accommodation, hotel/guesthouse, or casino in the place visited, nor does he/she have accommodation arrangement with a hotel/guesthouse.
Spending of Visitors: The amount paid by visitors for the purchase of goods and services for own use or to give away, including expenses paid by the visitors or reimbursed by others such as relatives, friends or employers. Spending of visitors excludes gaming expenses, donations, expenses on purchase of assets and goods for resale.
Any person taking a trip to a main destination outside his/her usual environment, for less than a year, for any main purpose other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visited.
