Per-capita spending of visitors from Singapore (+5.9%), Hong Kong (+8.4%) and Taiwan (+14.8%) recorded year-on-year growth, while that of Thailand visitors (MOP 1,086) dropped by 25.1%. Among the long-haul visitors, per-capita spending of visitors from Australia and the United States increased by 2.8% and 4.6% respectively year-on-year, while that of visitors from the United Kingdom decreased by 12.6%.
- Total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors amounted to MOP 14.79 billion, up by 13.3% year-on-year and 1.0% quarter-to-quarter. Total spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors increased by 15.8% and 3.6% respectively year-on-year. For the whole year of 2016, total spending of visitors reached MOP 52.66 billion, up by 3.0% year-on-year; total spending of overnight visitors rose by 4.8% while that of same-day visitors dropped by 3.6%.
- Per-capita spending of visitors was MOP 1,830, up by 10.2% year-on-year and 1.3% quarter-to-quarter, which was spent mainly on shopping (44.3%), accommodation (26.9%) and food & beverage (20.8%). Per-capita spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors rose by 2.4% and 11.2% respectively year-on-year. Per-capita spending of visitors coming to Macao for shopping (MOP 2,832) rose by 9.8% year-on-year, and spending of those coming for MICE events (MOP 2,826) surged by 25.4%.

- For the whole year of 2016, per-capita spending of visitors increased by 2.2% year-on-year to MOP 1,701; spending of same-day visitors rose by 3.7% while that of overnight visitors fell by 4.5%. Visitors spent mainly on shopping (43.7% of total), of which spending on local food products accounted for 29.5%.
Analysed by main purpose of visit, per-capita spending of visitors coming for MICE events reached MOP 2,700, up by 10.1% year-on-year.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, total spending of Mainland visitors increased by 13.8% year-on-year to MOP 11.47 billion (77.5% of total visitor spending), of which spending of Guangdong visitors (MOP 4.15 billion) and Fujian visitors (MOP 325 million) rose by 12.4% and 8.3% respectively.
Total spending of Mainland overnight visitors (MOP 9.21 billion) and same- day visitors (MOP 2.26 billion) increased by 16.8% and 2.9% respectively year-on-year.

Analysed by type of spending, visitors spent mainly on shopping in the fourth quarter (44.3% of overall spending); per-capita shopping spending of visitors rose by 6.1% year-on-year to MOP 811. Per-capita shopping spending of Mainland visitors was MOP 1,123, accounting for 52.1% of their overall spending; meanwhile, the corresponding spending of IVS visitors (MOP 1,486) made up 61.1% of their total.

beverage (MOP 381) increased by 16.5% and 12.4% respectively year-on- year. Per-capita spending of Japanese visitors on accommodation (MOP 801) and that of Taiwanese visitors on food & beverage (MOP 447) were comparatively high.

As regards type of shopping spending, per-capita spending of visitors on local food products (MOP 232) rose by 6.7% year-on-year; the corresponding spending of visitors from Malaysia was relatively high, at MOP 344, up by 9.2%.
Shopping spending accounted for 71.1% of the total spending of same-day visitors, with local food products (MOP 175) and cosmetics & perfume (MOP 138) being the most popular items purchased; spending on food &
beverage made up 16.8% of the total.
As for same-day visitors, per-capita spending of those from Mainland China and Singapore grew by 14.3% and 0.1% respectively year-on-year, while that of Thailand visitors (MOP 328) fell by 29.8%. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of same-day visitors from the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia recorded increase, with that of the United Kingdom soaring by 38.1%.

According to the results of the Visitors ’ Comments Survey for the fourth quarter of 2016, 89.7% and 84.7% of the visitor-users were satisfied with the services and facilities of hotels and retail shops respectively, down slightly by 0.8 and 0.3 percentage points quarter-to-quarter; the proportion of visitors who expressed satisfaction with services of gaming establishments rose by 1.3 percentage points to 84.8%.

Per-capita spending of same-day visitors went up by 3.7% year-on-year to MOP 693; while that of Mainland visitors topped at MOP 838, up by 3.2%.
Per-capita spending of overnight visitors was MOP 2,681 in 2016, down by 4.5% year-on-year. Analysed by countries and places, per-capita spending of overnight visitors from Mainland China (MOP 3,106) and Singapore (MOP 2,659) recorded year-on-year decline, while that of overnight visitors from Japan (MOP 2,541), Hong Kong (MOP 1,588) and Taiwan (MOP 2,998) increased.
In 2016, per-capita spending of visitors increased by 2.2% year-on-year to MOP 1,701. Per-capita spending of Mainland visitors rose slightly by 0.5%, with spending of IVS visitors falling by 1.4%. Per-capita spending of visitors from Singapore increased by 2.8% year-on-year, and that of visitors from Japan (+12.1%), Hong Kong (+12.6%) and Taiwan (+10.5%) recorded double-digit growth. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of visitors from Thailand dropped by 18.1%.
Per-capita spending of visitors on accommodation (MOP 463) and food &
beverage (MOP 355) increased by 9.3% and 3.2% respectively year-on- year.

Total spending of Mainland visitors rose marginally by 0.7% year-on-year to MOP 40.39 billion (76.7% of total visitor spending) in 2016, of which spending of IVS visitors totalled MOP 21.65 billion, down by 0.8%.

For the whole year of 2016, total spending of visitors reached MOP 52.66 billion, up by 3.0% from MOP 51.13 billion in 2015. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP 42.10 billion) went up by 4.8%, with its share in total visitor spending (79.9%) rising by 1.3 percentage points. Moreover, 44.8% of the visitors commented that points of tourist attractions were adequate, up by 2.3 percentage points year-on-year; meanwhile, 15.0% of the visitors considered that the points of tourist attractions were inadequate, up by 0.9 percentage points.

The proportion of visitors who complimented on the services of gaming facilities remained unchanged from 2015, at 84.2%. The proportion of visitors who were satisfied with the services of public transport (69.4%) was relatively low, down by 3.3 percentage points year-on-year.
Per-capita spending of visitors coming for vacation decreased by 6.6%
year-on-year to MOP 2,254, while that of transit visitors (MOP 314) dropped by 24.2%.
