153 NOTAS EXPLICATIVAS

Explicação de termos

Aluno matriculado : Aquele que se encontra inscrito num escola/ instituição/

estabelecimento de ensino.

Escolaridade gratuita : A escolaridade gratuita incide sobre a educação regular, incluindo as escolas oficiais que proporcionam aos ensinos infantil, primário, secundário geral, secundário complementar e as escolas particulares integradas no sistema escolar de escolaridade gratuita. A gratuitidade traduz-se na isenção do pagamento de propinas e despesas de serviços complementares e de outros encargos relativos à inscrição, frequência e certificação.

Ensino curricular : É sistemático e destina-se a crianças e jovens, facultando a progressão desde o ensino infantil à universidade. Há três condições a satisfazer no ensino curricular:

- ter uma duração mínima de um ano escolar;

- ter requisitos para a admissão;

- ter exame ou processo pré-estabelecido de avaliação.

Ensino especial : Destina-se a alunos que têm neccssidades especiais resultantes de:

deficiências mentais; sensoriais; corporais; de comunições, etc.

Taxa de escolarização : Relação entre alunos que frequentam um nível específico e a população com a idade específica daquele nível. A idade específica para o nível infantil é dos 3 até aos 5 anos, para o primário é dos 6 até aos 11 anos, para o secundário é dos 12 até aos 17 anos e para o superior é dos 18 até aos 22 anos.

Taxa de aprovação/taxa de conclusão : A taxa de aprovação é a relação entre os alunos aprovados e os registados no final do ano lectivo. Para a educação de adultos, a taxa de conclusão refere-se à relação entre o número de alunos que tenbam concluído o curso e o número de alunos matriculados no curso.

Relação docente-discente : Refere-se à relação entre o número de alunos e o número de professores no final do ano lectivo.

Período de referência : Setembro de cada ano a Agosto do ano seguinte.

Idades dos estudantes : Reportam-se a 31 de Dezembro do ano lectivo de referência .

EXPLANATORY NOTES

Glossary

Students enrolled : Students who have processed admission at a school/educational institution/establishment.

Free education : Free education covers pre-primary, primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools of regular education, comprising public-funded schools and schools that have joined the universal education network.

Free education refers to the exemption from the payment of tuition fees, service charges including those on enrolment, issuance of certificates, etc.

Regular education : Systematic education, comprising non-tertiary and higher education, designed and intended for children and young people by which they may progress from pre-primary through universities. Three prerequisite conditions for regular education are:

- the course duration must be at least of one school year;

- defined requirements for admission;

- examinations or defined evaluation standards for assessing the performance/progression.

Special education : Designed and intended for students who have special needs, such as gifted children, students with mental, sensory, corporal and communication problems, etc.

Enrolment rate : The ratio of the number of students studying in a specified educational level as at the end of the academic year to the end-year population of a specified age group. Age groups are defined as follows: 3 to 5 years for pre-primary, 6 to 11 years old for primary, 12 to 17 years old for secondary and 18 to 22 years old for higher education.

Class promotion rate/completion rate : Class promotion rate refers to the number of passed students or graduates expressed as a percentage of the number of students as at the end of the academic year. For adult education, the completion rate is applied, which refers to the ratio of the number of students who have completed the course to the number of students enrolled on the course.

Teacher/student ratio : The ratio of the number of students as at end of academic year to the number of teachers.

Reference period : From September each year to August of the following year.

Age of students : Counted as at 31
