Dogs are human’s best friends, and we all know that if there’s a piece of cake in front of them, they won’t just leave it but eat it right away! However, this is not the case of cats. Cats might be curious about cakes, yet they won’t have it. Why not?

When we take in something sweet, it breaks down into tiny small parts. They move across our tongue and reach the sugar receptor. Later, a message will be sent to our brain. It tells our brain there is sugar in our body, and we taste sweetness. We need this ability to help ourselves survive because most of time, sweet-tasting food are safe. As for cats, they are carnivores, and most of time their main dish is made up of meat. This might be why they lost the ability to taste sweetness through the history. According to the scientists, cat’s sugar receptors are broken, and they are not passed on to their offspring. All cat species possess this trait.

Although you might see cats eat sweets, it’s not because they like sweet food. They may just be attracted by some smell or nutrients in the food. Never expect your cat to enjoy cakes as much as you can!
