HKUST Appoints Professor of Literature
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology today announces the ’ appointment of poet, writer and Chinese and comparative literature scholar Ching-Hsien WANG as Professor of Literature in the Division of Humanities.
Born and raised in Taiwan, Professor Wang received his bachelor’s degree in English from Tunghai University. He then went to the United States, where he earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa, and a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
He began his teaching career at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He then went to the University of Washington, Seattle, where in 1981 he became Professor of Chinese and Comparative Literature. During his career, he has held visiting positions at National Taiwan University, Taipei, and at Princeton University.
Professor Wang is an award-winning poet who edits many important Chinese literary reviews both in Taiwan and in the United States.
The list of awards Professor Wang has won for his writing is long. Most recently, he was awarded Taiwan’s Wu San-lien Prize for Literature.
Professor Wang is married with one child.
