All over America there are buildings and institutions named after Andrew Carnegie. In New York, there’s the renowned Carnegie Hall. Carnegie Libraries can be found in nearly every state and there’s also the Carnegie University in Pittsburgh. These were all funded and built by Carnegie himself, using his own personal fortune. Andrew came from a poor Scottish family that migrated to America in the 1857. He was 12 years old and, instead of going to school, he went to work in a cotton mill, determined to be successful. With his savings, he bought shares in coal, iron and oil companies and soon showed a good return on his investments. By 1863, his income was higher than the President of the United States! That year, he started the Carnegie Steel Company to meet the huge demand for steel products created by the building of the railroads. This made him a

multi-millionaire, but he was not comfortable with his wealth. He believed that rich people should give away most of their money while they are alive, instead of leaving everything to their children. The phoenix was one of the most magnificent birds that ever lived. Unfortunately for bird watchers, the grand phoenix actually lived only in the imaginations of the ancient Greeks and Egyptians.

According to Greek mythology, only one phoenix at a time lived on earth. The phoenix, a male, was brightly colored, with gold and red feathers. Legend has it that the single bird lived for exactly five hundred years. Just before it was to die, it would build a nest. The mythical bird’s last task was to sit patiently on the nest, waiting for the sun to ignite the dry twigs and set the nest ablaze. But as the proud phoenix sacrificed itself in flame, a tiny worm would crawl from beneath the ashes. This worm grew into a new phoenix. Its first task was to gather up its father’s ashes and bury them in the temple of the Egyptian sun god in Heliopolis, the City of the Sun. Each reborn phoenix lived out the remainder of its life in Arabia.

Today, the phoenix symbolizes immortality. Someone who succeeds where he or she had previously failed is often referred to as a phoenix.

longevity of the matches it makes between dogs and people.

CCI trains four types of assistance dogs--service dogs, skilled companions, hearing dogs and facility dogs--to master over 40 specialized commands. Trainers, called handlers, work with Labrador retrievers and golden retriever for hours a day, but not every dog is good enough to be a working dog. CCI uses advanced technology to meticulously select and pair dogs for breeding. Volunteer breeder caretakers provide homes for the breeder dogs to whelp the puppies, and return the puppies to CCI national headquarters in Santa Rosa at age eight weeks. From there the puppies are placed with volunteer puppy raisers across the nation for socialization and obedience training. Between the ages of fifteen and eighteen months the puppies return to one of five CCI Regional Training Centers across the country for six months of training. After the training completes, each dog is teamed with an applicant during an intensive two-week training period, team training.

The work is serious business. Hearing dogs alert their owners to sounds like ringing telephones, doorbells, and stove timers. Other dogs work with severely disabled patients like eight-year-old Noah Habib, who communicates with a special computer. He likes it when people come to ask him about his dog. His father says people who normally might not approach them will come over and ask to pet her and play with her, ask what she does, and want to say hi to Noah.

When Lee Ann Laraway comes home with Jeannie and her groceries, Jeannie helps her open the door. “You can train a dog to do a lot of things," said Lee Ann, “but you can not give it the heart to do the job, and that is what a good working dog has." 66. Noah Habib _______.

68. In CCI, how old is a dog when it is teamed with an applicant? (A) About 2 years old.

The Ballad Of The Turkey by G Yates

As I walked along the road one day Kicking up stones along the way, I saw a bird of unusual size

Who had a large beak and small, beady eyes.

He strutted about and ruffled his wings Then he did the most ominous thing.

He let out a screech and puffed out his chest I wanted to run from this evil pest.

As this bird's mighty exterior did appear The inside of my chest was filled with fear. He put one talon forward, the other one next This troublesome bird was making me vexed.

I then did something that was a great chance. I kicked a stone at him to stop his advance. He then chased the stone, oh joy of great joys! I felt myself one of the luckiest boys!

Around the corner I ran, straight to my home, Leaving that bird confused and alone.

Don't befriend a turkey (for that's what he was) Or he will attack you simply because.
