CAS and HKUST Set Up

Microelectronics Joint Laboratory

Collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is further strengthened today (Friday) as the two institutions conclude an agreement for the establishment of a Microelectronics Joint

Laboratory.

The agreement will be signed by Prof Lu Yongxiang, Executive Vice-President of CAS and Prof Shain-Dow Kung, Vice-Vice-President for Academic Affairs, HKUST.

This is the second joint laboratory established by the two sides. Last year, the first cooperative venture was the establishment of the Life Science and Biotechnology Joint Laboratory.

The Microelectronics Joint Laboratory will focus its initial research on 0.1 to 0.35 µm technology devices and circuit design. In addition to research activities, it will also conduct academic exchanges, conferences and the training of microelectronics professionals. The Joint Laboratory will be based at HKUST, which will allocate its microelectronics fabrication facilities and advanced equipment for research use.

Two other joint laboratories, in Advanced Materials and Information Technology, are planned to be set up in the near future.
