INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AUTONOMY IN LANGUAGE LEARNING

An international conference on “Autonomy in Language Learning”, jointly sponsored by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), will be held from 23 to 25 June 1994. Some 66 participants from Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Oman,

. Singapore, USA, and Vietnam will be attending the conference.

Conference papers will focus on a wide variety of topics relating to language learner autonomy--from multimedia to culture, from directed self-access learning at the tertiary level to autonomous learning in the secondary classroom and beyond.

Invited speakers include*Dr Edith Esch, Director of the Language Centre at the University of Cambridge; Professor David Little, Director of the Centre for Communication and Language Studies at Trinity College, Dublin; and Professor David Nunan, Director of the English Centre at the University of Hong Kong. In addition to six plenary sessions, 43 individual sessions are

scheduled, including three forums, three workshops, and at least five demonstrations.

Publications will also be on display from various publishers.

The venue for 23 and 25 June is Chow Tak Sing Lecture Theatre (F) at HKUST. The Friday (26 June) morning session will be held at CUHK, and the Friday afternoon session at Shenzhen University.
