Trump, ___53____, rode a wave of anger toward Washington insiders to win the White House race against Clinton, whose gold-plated establishment resume included being as a first lady, US senator and secretary of state.

Access to clean toilet facilities is a basic human right, but according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nation Environment Program, more than two billion people around the world rely on shared toilets that are used by large numbers of people. With so many people using them, the toilets are hard to keep clean. Diseases spread quickly from these toilets, causing thousands of people to fall sick or die each year. These shocking statistics remind us of a mostly forgotten global disgrace.

The religion with the least access to toilet facilities are African and Asia. Throughout China, between fifty and seventy-five percent of people do not have flush toilets connected to a sewer and septic tank. In India, countless people have no toilet other than the bank of Ganges River. More than one million liters of raw sewage enters the river every minute. The WHO estimates that ninety-two percent of people in Rwanda have no toilet facilities of any kind. With many people sharing small spaces, it is difficult to keep food and toilet waste areas separate.

Since the poorest parts of the world also need many other things, such as food, medicine, and education, the building of adequate toilet facilities is therefore often considered a low priority. However, many aids organizations, both in wealthy and poor countries, are working together to provide people in poor countries with access to clean toilets. In Mozambique, a local aid organization and an organization from Britain have joined together to improve hygiene in the town of Lichinga. They have begun replacing human waste pits with eco-toilets, toilets that use very little water and mix toilet waste with soil and ash to create fertilizer compost. Unlike the traditional pit toilets, these eco-toilets

don’t smell bad, nor do they attract disease-carrying flies or mosquitoes. More importantly, they cost only 25 US dollars to install and nothing to maintain. These eco-toilets help prevent the spread of diseases and improve the sanitary of people in even the poorest countries.

57. The passage mainly deals with __________ (A)the poorest countries in the world

(B) the invention of eco-toilets

(C) toilet conditions in poor countries (D)toilet conditions in African countries

58. According to the passage, the poor conditions of toilet facilities brought about ______. (A) lack of food

Twenty-eight teachers in my master’s level class silently moved together to the right side of the room to signify that they would teach the civil rights movement to their elementary students. Familiar stories were shared such as “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr., and the agreeing feeling in the room was that the civil rights movement should be taught to children. Several questions were within the framework of social justice. Then came the next question. “Would you teach about the Holocaust?”

Most of the teachers stayed where they were but several moved to the center of the room to indicate that they were not sure. They were worried about the age of their students. Everyone agreed that it should be taught. When to teach it was the more challenging question. How would one approach this subject with younger children? Would students understand this heavy topic? In the end, everyone agreed that it was a subject that could be tackled in elementary school. And finally, I asked, “Would you teach about gay marriage?”

There was a great deal of movement in response to this question. For the first time, a group of teachers moved to the far side of the room to express that they would not teach about gay marriage. Why? One woman stated that she taught at a Catholic school and was not allowed to talk about gay marriage or gay rights issues. Another teacher said that even if he were allowed to teach the subject, he would not because it went against his personal beliefs.

Throughout this discussion I couldn’t help but imagine how this conversation might have echoed a similar one heard 40 years ago in regards to the civil rights movement. There will always be sensitive topics to address in a fight towards social justice, equality and tolerance. The question then becomes, who will stand up and make a difference?

61. What is the main idea of this passage?

(A) It’s easier to teach civil rights than to teach Holocaust to elementary students .

(B) The passage is to challenge the idea of social justice. (C) LBGT equality is still hard to teach in school.

(D) It is too early to teach social justice in the elementary school.

62. According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT correct? (A) Most of the teachers worried about when to teach Holocaust.

(B) Most of the teachers disapproved to teach gay marriage in school. (C) To teach “I have a dream” would be too heavy to elementary students. (D) LBGT equality is a sensitive and controversial topic in school.

63. Where was the discussion most possibly held? (A)In a music concert.

(B) At a teacher seminar. (C) At a buffet reception. (D)At a business conference. 第二部份
